Semiotic Cross Example

The signified object or idea that is being conveyed quite simply is communication, or the exchanging of information. The context is established by the signs that are used, so the object becomes communication of today.

The signifier is the word “communication” itself.

This graphic shows representation with icons that depict many tools used in communication. These icons also become symbols, as they resemble the letters in the word “communication.” This compounds the meaning of the signs.

When the signified, signifier and signs are combined the viewer creates meaning out of them through their own interpretation. When I combine the whole “communication” part with the Modus and the written information in the white box, it tells me that communication is a significant part of business, especially through the tools and media we use.
